Prayer alone is not enough (Part 6)
Verse of the day: Matthew 5:23-24 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift”
This morning we close the fifth part’s before studying the verse of the day. We were meditating on work as salt. When we pray, we allow God to powerfully act according to our request. He always looks for a seed to water in order to multiply it. Praying for a job is a very good thing but we need to be aware that we often limit the hand of God because He likes to act through people. God enjoys blessing an honest work and like I said in the beginning of this teaching, prayer is comparable to food that needs salt before being eaten.
Another essential point to make prayer efficient is reconciliation. In the verse of the day, Jesus urges us to reconcile before continuing our prayer. He tells us about someone who offers his gift to the altar and there remembers that he has something against his brother or sister (he owes him something). He should first leave his gift there in front of the altar and go to be reconciled to him before continuing his prayer. Jesus didn’t say that we should leave with our offering, but we should leave it in front of the altar.
If “prayer” means “reconciliation” with God, the word shows us that if we really want to reconcile with God, we need first to reconcile with our brothers and sisters. John writes that anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer (1 John 3:15) which will be a hindrance to prayer.
Prayer and knowing the Word should walk together. We need to know how to pray and mostly understand what the obstacles are in order to avoid them. Like I use to repeat it very often, God does every good work through prayer and nothing is done without prayer. If there are certain things that you received without praying, you need to know that someone (who knows you or doesn’t know you) prayed somewhere. The Holy-Spirit can use your prayers to bless a brother living in a different continent and you won’t even be aware about it. Any prayer done in the name of Jesus is never a loss if it’s done by faith.

Aujourd’hui nous clôturons la méditation de la cinquième partie avant de méditer sur le verset du jour. Quand nous prions, nous permettons à Dieu d’agir puissamment conformément à notre demande. Il cherche toujours une semence à arroser pour finalement la multiplier. Prier pour trouver le travail est une très bonne chose mais il faut noter que souvent nous limitons la main de Dieu car Il aime agir à travers les hommes. Dieu trouve du plaisir à bénir un travail honnête et comme je l’ai dit au début de cet enseignement, la prière est comparable à la nourriture qui a besoin de sel pour être mangée.
Un autre élément essentiel pour rendre la prière efficace est la réconciliation. Dans le verset du jour, Jésus nous exhorte à nous réconcilier avant de continuer notre prière. Il nous parle de quelqu’un qui présente son offrande à l’autel c-à-d quelqu’un qui est en pleine prière et qui se souvient qu’il doit quelque chose à son frère. Il doit d’abord aller se réconcilier avec son frère avant de continuer sa prière. Jésus ne dit pas qu’il faut partir avec son offrande, mais qu’il faut laisser son offrande devant l’autel.
Si « prier » veut dire « se réconcilier » avec Dieu, la parole nous montre que si on veut réellement se réconcilier avec Dieu, on doit d’abord le faire avec nos frères. Jean écrit que celui qui hait son frère est un meurtrier (1 Jean 3 :15) ce qui sera un blocage à la prière.
La prière et la connaissance de la parole doivent normalement marcher ensemble. Nous devons savoir comment prier et surtout comprendre quels sont les obstacles afin de les éviter.
Comme je le répète souvent, Dieu fait toute bonne œuvre par la prière et rien n’est fait sans la prière. S’il y’a des choses que tu as eues sans prier, sache que quelqu’un (qui te connaît ou qui ne te connaît pas) a prié quelque part. Le Saint-Esprit peut utiliser tes prières pour bénir un frère qui est dans un autre continent sans que tu ne t’en rendes pas compte. Une prière faite au nom de Jésus n’est jamais une perte si elle est faite avec foi.
